Why do you wanna be an OW swim coach, James?
Well, for the last three years, I have been a swim coach at Dunfermline Amateur Swimming Club and it's great seeing my knowledge and experience helping swimmers to improve their techniques.
During lockdown, to help me with my mental health battles, I discovered a love of swimming outdoors. Not only the pleasure of being immersed in nature but meeting some brilliant people, especially the wonderful folk from Fife Wild Swimmers.
This business combines these two passions. It’s that simple!
Is this really all you do?
No Sir-ree! I'm a busy boy. Here are a just few of the things that keep me occupied.
- Enjoying a wild swim adventure with my friends, Bill and Pete
- Battling weeds and cultivating tomatoes at my allotment.
- Cycling around Fife, training for Aquabike competitions (Triathlon without the run) or sportives.
- Working with Plastic-Free Dunfermline (that I founded) to raise awareness about plastic pollution. Visit www.plasticfreedunfermline.org.uk for more details.
What experience do you have in swimming and swim coaching?
A year-round swimmer at Lochore Meadows and Aberdour, in both wetsuit and 'skins'.
I swim in the masters squad at Dunfermline ASC.
Swims around and across the Forth and many other swim adventures in Scotland and Europe.
Level 1 Swim Coaching (awarded by Scottish Swimming).
Open Water Swim Coaching (awarded by STA).
Open Water Safety (awarded by STA).
Safer Stand-Up Paddleboard (awarded by British Canoeing)
